A Front-Page Read of the CIDE Map

Reforma’s national-section piece took the 148 criminal groups finding from the CIDE Drug Policy Program and translated it for a print readership: who they are, where they sit on the map, and how the figure compares to the small handful of cartels that dominate official communication. The article cited the underlying methodology — open-source intelligence + press analysis + structured coding — and gave the dataset its first major exposure in Mexico’s print press.

Why a Print Citation Mattered

A print citation in a national daily is not a download number — it is a signal that a research finding has crossed from academic circulation into the public discourse the political class actually reads. The 148 figure entered the security debate in Mexico in part because of citations like this one.
